Discover the secrets to masterful improvisation with "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Improvisers," where seven expert instructors share their top tips for unforgettable scene work. Each week you'll have the opportunity to work with a different, expert instructor as they reveal their best advice and techniques for crafting hilarious, unforgettable scenes. All graduates of 7 HABITS will be invited to perform in an extended run of STUDIO THURSDAYS playing at the Comedy Bar Danforth Studio Theatre. Ticket sales from STUDIO THURSDAYS will be a 50/50 split with performers. | ||

Ken Hall | Ken Hall is a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee, Canadian Comedy Award winner (Best Breakout Artist) and multiple CCA award nominee, including most recently, Comedic Artist of the Year. Ken plays the lovable Herb and provides motion capture as the body of Pogo in Netflix's THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY and has appeared in numerous film and television roles including two seasons as, Jeff The Grey, on TBS’s hit series PEOPLE OF EARTH and has appeared as a guest on CONAN.Ken is also one-half of the critically acclaimed, comedic clownprov duo, 2-MAN NO-SHOW, with his comedic soulmate, Isaac Kessler, and has had the pleasure to work for CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. | |
Jamie Cavanagh | Jamie Cavanagh is an award-winning actor, improviser, and theatre artist with over two decades of experience performing across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. A seasoned Shakespearean performer and improv instructor, Jamie has taught at Second City, LAMDA, Rapid Fire Theatre, and the Citadel Theatre. He has tackled iconic Shakespearean roles such as Hamlet, Romeo, and Mercutio and brings a deep love of the Bard to his improv practice. As the Artistic Director of Knifefight Theatre and Artistic Producer of The Assembly Theatre, Jamie continues to champion bold, innovative storytelling. | |
Nicole Passmore | Nicole Passmore is a Toronto-based improviser, sketch comedian, and actor. You can catch her every Wednesday at Comedy Bar for Nice Time, Toronto's most fun improv show, guaranteed. She performs regularly with Bad Dog Theatre, and is an alumni of both the Second City National Touring Company and award-winning sketch troupe The Sketchersons. Nicole has been featured in multiple festivals across North America- like JFL, Improvaganza, Combustion, VIIF, Stumptown Improv Festival, Out of Bounds, and the Detroit Improv Festival. You might have seen her face on Umbrella Academy (Netflix), Pop Papers (YTV), or Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), or heard her voice on Pinkalicious & Peterrific (PBS) and Doomlands (Roku). | |
Andrew Bushell | Andrew Bushell is an established actor in film, television, and live comedy. An alumni of Second City's Main Stage, Andrew's work ranges from comedic turns on the Kim's Convenience spin off Strays, Second Jen, and Shelved to the romantic leads in numerous movies for Hallmark, OWN and Lifetime, including this years Under the Christmas Sky, We’re Scrooged, Christmas Revisited and Christmas Plus One. Andrew can also be seen in a recurring capacity on the popular Global TV series Hudson and Rex and CW's The Spencer Sisters. | |
Lisa Merchant | Lisa Merchant has been studying, performing and teaching the art of improvisation for 35+ years. A Senior Faculty member at The Second City Training Centre and The Social Capital Theatre and a corporate facilitator both privately and with The Second City Works division. Since 2017 she has been Program Chair for Improv(ed) Legal Skills: Improvisation for Legal Professionals for Osgoode Hall Law School Professional Development. Lisa is a professor at Humber College in the Media and Creative Arts Department Comedy Program teaching Improvisation.She delivered workshops to some of the Canadian Olympic Team hopefuls for the London 2012 Summer Games as well as Sochi 2014 Winter Games. Most recently she taught and performed with Angel Comedy in London, U.K and performed in the Artic Comedy Festival in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She is a multiple nominee and winner of 4 Canadian Comedy Awards, 3 for Best Female Improvisor. Adam Cawley | Adam Cawley has taught at The Second City (Toronto and Hollywood) since 2007. As well as a faculty member at: The Bad Dog Theatre, The Assembly (Toronto/Mexico) Vintage Improv (Virtual) The Westside Comedy Theatre (Santa Monica) and The Howard Fine Acting Studio in Los Angeles. He co-hosts the improv tutorial podcast: The Backline. Winner of the National Podcast Award for best educational series which has allowed him to perform, coach and teach at theatres across The United States, Australia, The UK, Canada, Mexico, Latvia, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark and more. Adam is a graduate of The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, I.O, The Second City Conservatory and studied extensively with The Annoyance Theatre. | |
Carly Heffernan | Carly Heffernan is an award winning director, writer, actor, showrunner and Capricorn. She is currently the Artistic & Executive Director of CB Pro Comedy School and Comedy Bar Danforth Productions. Prior to joining the amazing team at Comedy Bar she was the Head of Creative for The Second City and Artistic Director for The Second City Toronto. Carly recently directed Season 4 of the CSA nominated sketch comedy TV series, ABROAD (OMNI) and was Showrunner and Director for the third season of the CSA nominated comedy series, Second Jen (OMNI). She also directed the smash-hit, all-female sketch revue, SHE THE PEOPLE which played for three years in Chicago’s UP Theatre as well as extended runs in Boston, Montreal, Washington D.C. and Toronto. | |

This class is by submission only. Applicants must be a graduate of Advanced Improv 2 or an equivalent improv program or have 3+ years of industry experience to be eligible. | ||
