Like silent movie star Buster Keaton, modern comedy genius Nathan Fielder is a still deadpan force dropped into a crazy world. The idea of misdirection is always present in Fielder's comedy, just as it was in Keaton's who said he would never miss a chance to"double cross an audience." In this four-hour workshop we'll compare Fielder's deadpan social experiments, Keaton's carefully engineered physical gags and Georges Feydeau's tightly wound 19th century French bedroom farces. Through film clips, scene readings, discussion and hands-on exercises, you'll learn how misdirection, timing, escalation and most of all surprise translate into big laughs. You'll also leave with concepts for building your own comic misdirection, reversals and payoffs that land.
