Spoon River is a character-driven longform format inspired by the feeling of a shared world told through many voices. Built around monologues, relationships, and overlapping perspectives, the format invites improvisers to create rich emotional lives, uncover secrets, and reveal how individual stories intertwine.
In this workshop, we’ll focus on grounded monologues, making specific character choices, and discovering connections between characters without forcing plot. Through exercises, side coaching, and full-format runs, you’ll practice listening for themes, heightening relationships, and letting the world of the piece emerge naturally.
Ideal for intermediate to advanced improvisers who want to strengthen character work, emotional honesty, and ensemble storytelling in a quiet, powerful longform structure.
