This workshop explores how to establish the core idea of a musical improv song before the first lyric. Participants will learn techniques to identify the emotional and narrative focus of a song in the brief moment between scene and singing. The class emphasizes clarity of intention, emotional alignment, and storytelling structure, helping performers create songs that feel purposeful rather than improvised by accident.
Through individual and group exercises, students will practice recognizing when a scene is ready to turn into a song, articulating the underlying point of view, and making clear thematic choices that guide lyrics and melody.
