CB PRO bridges the gap between student and working artist. Our classes are taught by working industry professionals and are geared towards the practical application of training. 

Live performance classes include noted performances and extended semi-pro runs, meaning more stage time in front of public audiences for students than anywhere else!

Show revenues are split 50/50 with students so you have the potential to earn back class fees while learning. 

Writing training gives the experience of a real world writers room and ensures that you leave the program with a marketable written asset!

PRO SHORT FORM IMPROV

This 9 week course delves deep into Expert Level hosting and playing short-form improv comedy. 

With 7 in-studio classes and 2 noted performances, students will gain an advanced understanding of how to host, call and play over 25 of the most common short form games as well as receive Intro Scripts, Suggestion Lists and resources they’ll use for years to come! 

All graduates of PRO-SERIES SHORT FORM IMPROV will be invited to perform in an extended run of “Comedy Bar Game Night”! 

Ticket sales from “Comedy Bar Game Night” shows will be a 50/50 split with performers. 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: This Pro-Series class is by submission only. Applicants must be a graduate of an improv program or have 5+ years industry experience to be eligible.

Over this 9 Week course, students will create a completely unique Long-Form Improv Format. With 8 in-studio classes and 1 noted performance you’ll heighten your scene work and learn expert level techniques for narrative structure, group dynamics, patterns, callbacks, theme exploration, edits and transitions, all while creating Toronto’s next, great Improv Show!

All graduates of PRO-SERIES NEW FORMATS: IMPROV will be invited to perform in an extended run of, “Longform Night.”

PRO SCENIC IMPROV

Take your scene work to the next level with our 9-week Pro Scenic Improv Class. Designed for experienced improvisers ready to challenge their creativity, enhance their presence on stage, and master the nuances of scenic improvisation by actively listening, authentically reacting and slowing down to get deliberate with their scene work. Leave this course with the confidence that you can always deliver a solid scene anywhere, from auditions to jams to pro shows and everything in between!

All graduates of PRO SCENIC IMPROV will be invited to perform in an extended run of, “The Scene” playing in the Comedy Bar Danforth Studio theatre.

PRO SKETCH WRITING

Over the course of 9 weeks you’ll dive into essential scene types and structures, focus on the keys to establishing a strong premise and learn the value of efficient rewrites and punch-ups. Explore advanced techniques in creating unique characters and worthwhile callbacks and payoffs.  Raise the stakes in your writing and develop a portfolio of high-caliber sketches you can take anywhere!

The final class of PRO-SERIES SKETCH WRITING will culminate in a live table read with veteran comedy performers and industry experts. Get your work seen by working professionals!

PRO STAND-UP

Build on your current skills by learning to tap into your authentic voice. With 7 in-studio classes and 2 noted performances, you’ll craft original, relatable, and punchy material that reflects your unique perspective. Drill down on the nuances of comedic timing, pausing, and pacing to maximize laughter. Practice your physical and vocal delivery, including gestures, facial expressions, and vocal inflections. Edit and refine your jokes to eliminate unnecessary words and maximize comedic impact.

All graduates of the PRO-SERIES STAND-UP 1 class will have first access to spots on “Comedy Bar’s HOT MIC” a stand-up night running Tuesdays at 8:30pm in the Comedy Bar Danforth Studio Theatre.

In this 9-week course you’ll learn the key concepts to developing a standout show treatment. Through practice, you’ll create dynamic characters, a well-defined setting and a unique and engaging premise that will set your sitcom apart. Discover how to establish a consistent tone and style of humour that suits your characters. Learn to focus on the relationships and interactions between characters to find that perfect balance between humour and heart.
